Ceremonies that sound true.

I don’t believe weddings need to sound formal to be meaningful. I believe they need to sound true.

I’m Mel Maas, the officiant behind Wolf & Witness Ceremonies. I create custom wedding ceremonies for people who want something authentic—grounded, personal, and free from religious doctrine, while still honoring the depth of the moment.

My work is shaped by deep listening: to people, to silence, and to the natural world. I pay attention to rhythm, breath, energy, and presence—not as belief, but as practice. You don’t have to share my language for this to matter. You’ll feel it in how the ceremony settles and how the words land.

Many of the couples I work with are queer, non-traditional, blending families, choosing marriage later in life, or choosing love again after loss. These relationships deserve to be honored with care.

A ceremony should feel like you.

Whether you’re planning a wedding, commitment ceremony, handfasting, or another kind of joining ritual, Wolf & Witness creates ceremonies that honor the people at the center of the moment.

This is for people who want more than a script. More than a legal formality. More than someone reading words that could belong to anyone.

We’ll shape something grounded, personal, and fully your own.

Values & Approach

A grounded process

Creating a ceremony does not need to feel overwhelming.

We begin with conversation, then move gently into story, structure, ritual, language, and the ceremony itself. You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out.

We’ll take it one step at a time.
